Who We Are

Our History

The Penina Nyawira Foundation is a non-governmental organization founded in 2017 by Lucy Gitonga, to provide education opportunities for underprivileged students in Kenya. The Foundation was started with the goal of paying school fees for the needy students who are unable to pay their tuition fees due to financial constraints.

The Foundation’s founder, Lucy Gitonga, was inspired to start the NGO after witnessing the plight of two form one students from a rural primary school in Marmanet, Laikipia West County, who had scored over 300 marks and had been accepted to a secondary school but their parents couldn’t raise the funds for their school fees. Most of these parents are manual laborers who earn USD 3 per day to support their families.

Our mission is to support underprivileged students in their pursuit of academic excellence, and to equip them with the skills and knowledge they need to thrive in a rapidly changing world.

Our mission is to break the cycle of poverty in Kenya by providing education opportunities to underprivileged students from high school to college, and helping them secure job placements. We believe that education is a fundamental human right that can transform lives and communities, and we are committed to making it accessible to all.
